Brain cancer is one of the most under funded areas of research in the UK.
There is currently no treatment for the DIPG brain tumour that Ellie was diagnosed with (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma), the only care available is Palliative Radiotherapy and this has remained unchanged in over 50 years!
Research offers the only real hope for dramatic improvements in the management and treatment of brain tumours. Over £700m is spent on cancer research in the UK every year, yet less than 3% of this is spent on brain tumours.
As soon as Ellie received the devastating news of her DIPG she immediately put plans in place, for when the time came, to have her brain donated for medical research, so strong was Ellie’s desire to want to find a cure to help other patients and their families.
It is because of Ellie’s altruistic wishes that it became paramount for us as her family to set up this foundation.
Raising awareness is so important – without awareness there is no money, without money there is no research, and without research there will be no cure!
